Program — 5:30 to 7:00pm

We will screen Chris Jones’  “Paradise or Profit,” a short documentary concerning our anti-tar sands mining campaign here in Northwest Alabama.

We might possibly show another short tar sands video of a more general nature, if time allows.

This meeting will also feature a panel discussion concerning MS Industries’ permit application to mine “non-fuel sands, clays, ores and other minerals through the open pit method” on a site at 2228 CR [1]35, in Lawrence County.John Crowder, David Cope and Joel Mize will lead a group discussion of the permit application and the many concerns we have with it.
A 30 day comment period began on February 16, in which the public can make written comments to Alabama Dept. of Environmental Management (ADEM) concerning the permit application. There will be handouts for meeting attendees, listing some of our many concerns with MSI application and other info helpful in making comment to ADEM.
