In the first two iterations of our email newsletter, I included the following thank-you and framework of my own vision for what Alabama can be. I thought I’d share it here, for all to see.

Thanks for your interest in fighting oil sands mining in Alabama. The United States needs energy and the Shoals area can certainly benefit from real, positive economic development. Today’s technology makes clean energy possible, if we stop subsidizing the fossil fuels that impede our path to a bright and sustainable economic future.
Strip mining oil sands in Alabama is NOT the path to economic prosperity.
In fact, strip mining oil sands in Alabama will likely destroy the great potential we have in the Shoals to build a 21st century economy that creates wealth and jobs for the citizens who’ve built their lives in the Tennessee Valley and surrounding areas.
Quality of life, community, health, education, creativity, arts and artisanship, clean technology—these are the building blocks for a truly vibrant economy.
Our bright future will come from the artists, the inventors, the creators—the men and women who are committed to craftsmanship and excellence.
